This is the Chicago Chapter
of the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion (reenacted). Our group reenacts a small Parachute battlion that was forgotten by
their country and its military. The Goyas * Get Off Your Ass* served their country well from Panama to the Battle of the Bulge.
This Airborne battlion went from 800 men to about 150 men standing after they fought in the northern shoulder of the Bulge.
They cut off the escape route of the 2nd SS pz. Along the Salm river. They captured their objective but suffered heavy heavy
loses. Soon after this great lose of men the unit was disbanded to be lost and forgotten. Our unit plans to change that. The
551st deserves better.
REASONS FOR RE-ENACTING
Our main goal of re-enacting is to honor the World War Two veteran
and specifically those who fought in the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion. The
551st PIB took over 70% casualties before it was disbanded in late January of 1945. The
"Goyas" were lost and forgotten in official histories but its service and sacrifice was second to none. Even though the 551st PIB is an odd unit, it fought in several major campaigns and trained to fight as
a special reaction unit. We as reenactors are making sure they arent forgotten.
We fully intend to adhere to the WWII HRS, Inc. By-Laws, safety and authenticity
